When you think of your favorite apps, things like Instagram or TikTok probably come to mind. But, did you know that there are even apps to help you relax and track your sleep patterns? It’s amazing! While there are hundreds of choices out there, let’s get right into some of the best sleep apps to help you relax and get a great night of sleep. Who doesn’t want that?
Here are 5 iPad apps to help you relax and sleep well.
Even if you’ve never tried it yourself, you’re probably familiar with the meditation app called, Headspace, which is one of the most relaxing apps for anxiety. Now, if you think that meditation is just some “woo woo” thing, just give it a try. I’ve been using the paid version of Headspace for years and I would 100% recommend it, especially for beginners. You can choose meditations that are as short as 1 minute long, so you never have the excuse that you don’t have enough time. You can even choose from hundreds of topics to find something general or specific to whatever is going on in your own life. For example, when I lost a family member last year, I found the 30-day meditation on grieving to be extremely timely and relevant to what I was facing. One last thing to note, if you happen to be a student, you can sign up using your university email to get a substantial discount!
If you’re a type-A person that loves tracking your progress, then you’ll have so much fun using the Sleep Cycle app, as it’s one of the best free sleep apps, where you can use many free features or upgrade for access to more options! This app will analyze your sleep patterns to learn what is working or isn’t working for you. Another feature that I love is that you can set an approximate wake-up time, and then the app will wake you up when you’re in the lightest stage of sleep. Why does this matter? Well, it helps you to wake up feeling the most refreshed, allowing you to avoid that groggy feeling, where you feel like you could sleep for another 8 hours.
Similar to Headspace, the Calm app is one of the top apps to get started with mindfulness and meditation. You’ll find guided meditations ranging from 3 minutes all the way up to 25 minutes long. One of the most notable features is that you’ll find “sleep stories” that are read by familiar voices including Matthew McConaughey, Leona Lewis, and Jerome Flynn, among others. You’ll find numerous topics like managing stress, calming anxiety, forgiveness, gratitude, and relationships. These days, it seems like we’re all a little anxious and on edge from time to time, and having an app like Calm can be exactly what you need in the day to relax and unwind from a difficult day.
This is an app that is new to me, but I can’t wait to check it out! It seems to be a great option for free apps to help you sleep. Just like the name says, this is an app that provides you with white noise to help you fall asleep. This could be especially useful if you’re traveling, need a power nap in the middle of the day, or if you have a hard time calming your mind and falling asleep. What’s really interesting is that while you’re sleeping your brain is still listening to all the sounds around you, meaning that if you normally have absolute silence, noises like a siren or household sounds can interrupt your sleep. But, White Noise Lite helps to mask many of those everyday noises, helping you to get a better night of sleep.
If you’re artistic or would like to be, coloring is a great way to de-stress and let your creative side shine! According to Pigment, just 10 minutes of coloring can give you many of the same benefits as meditation. You have so many tools with this app, you can use oil, watercolor, or pastels. I also love that you can send your creations to your family or friends via social media, email, or text. Or, even print them out and hang them up around your home to show off your artistic skills!
Now that you have all of these new options for free apps for stress and anxiety, the tough part will be deciding which app to download first! And, if you live with a partner, family, or a friend, see if they are willing to join in on the fun. You could meditate together, color, or even have fun comparing your latest sleep statistics! And of course, if you’re looking for even more great tools to de-stress, plan, and be mindful, you’ll love the Daily Mindfulness Digital Planner and the 60 Prompt Manifestation Journal.
