Whether you’re a novice or an expert, here are some simple ideas for how to use your iPad for professional and personal goal setting.
Find a Note-Taking App to Collect Your Ideas
The first step is to have a clear way to collect and store all of your ideas. If you’re brand new to goal setting on your iPad, you might start with something really simple and built-in like Apple notes. Then, when you’re ready to upgrade you might move over to a note-taking app like Evernote, GoodNotes, or Notability. Whenever you think of a goal you want to set or even a simple task that needs completing, make sure to put it in your notes app for later so that you don’t forget about it. A mistake that people often make is storing ideas in dozens of different places from notebooks to apps or random sheets of paper. Instead, I’d suggest finding one notes app that you really like and then using that as your one place to store everything.
You’d think that coming up with goals would be simple, but for some people, this is actually really challenging. If you need a little boost of inspiration, you can start by watching other “plan with me” videos to see how people plan their goals for the week or month. Of course, you don’t need to have the same goals. Instead, see what resonates with you and use that as a starting point for your own brainstorming. Set Your Goals with a Digital Goal Setting Planner
If you never know where to start when it comes to planning or goal setting, a digital planner is a must for you! With a goal-setting digital planner, you can easily create your own vision board, track your habits, and set both short and long-term goals for yourself. While goal setting is exciting, it can also be a little intimidating or overwhelming. I find that having the guidance of a planner is just the amount of structure that I need to help get me started. With the planner, you’ll have sections for all areas of life including personal, career, health/fitness, sustainability, mental wellness, and others.
Make It Fun
While goal setting can be serious and overwhelming, it should also be fun and exciting too! Put on your favorite playlist or play one of your favorite shows in the background as you’re thinking and planning out your amazing life! And if you want your goals to look pretty, incorporate some of your favorite colors and your best handwriting. Or, maybe that can even be one of your goals, to improve your digital handwriting every single month to make your spreads more visually appealing.
Use a Timer to Do a Weekly/Monthly Goals Review
If you haven’t tried timer apps before, this is a great way to upgrade your productivity for your weekly goal setting or monthly goal setting! Try to do a weekly session where you review your goals from the previous week and adjust for the week ahead. I love using a timer for this because it helps to keep me on track and focused. Otherwise, I tend to start daydreaming or getting distracted. This doesn’t have to be a long or intense process. You might start with 5-10 minutes and see how it goes. The key here is to try and have a consistent time each week and month for reviewing and tracking your goals. For example, this might be Sunday afternoon. Find what works for you!
In today’s world, it’s easy to feel discouraged when something isn’t perfect. Remember that just like anything else, setting and tracking goals is a learned skill. The more you practice, the better you will become. It’s more important to start small and achieve your goals than to set a million goals and never follow through with them. At first, you might just set one personal goal and one professional goal. Then, as you make progress and increase your confidence, you can continue adding more and more over time.
